Divine Revengeance

Divine Revengeance is a post-apocalyptic fantasy roleplaying game. The new world, known as a "planete" called Threa, is maintained by Earth's Embryo, a God who hatched from the fiery center of Earth. You play as a young adult who, since birth, has regularly received visions of the distant, unknown past. After years of alienation from your village, you finally have the opportunity to start a new life. However, during a chance encounter, you awaken the vengeful spirit of Threa's revered war hero, who now seeks revenge against Earth's Embryo for unjustly murdering him after his service - a fact known to none, save for you and the gods themselves.

For my thesis project (as part of my Senior Seminar course), I chose to make a game demo for one of my personal passion projects, Divine Revengeance. This, perhaps, was quite ambitious, given it was my first time working with RPGMaker MV.

Having previously worked in Twine or in a group with dedicated roles, I faced many new challenges in regards to game design, asset making, map making, and programming (even if RPGMaker simplifies this process). I ultimately prioritized writing, game design, and bug testing. Though I still put plenty of time into the artwork, I made a few placeholder assets (i.e. simplistic NPC models) to save time.

The following images are maps I drew for the game's opening location (the player's foster home).

I took inspiration from numerous CRPGs, such as Bioware's Baldur's Gate 2 and Obsidian Entertainment's Tyranny. It took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to incorporate CRPG elements into RPGMaker, due to its JRPG default.

I plan on developing Divine Revengeance to completion. Due to the scope of the project, it will likely take a long time. Feel free to reach out if you are interested in seeing the game's prototype.
